News from the apocalypse I

We started quarantine on March 13th, 2020. I had already barely left the house or seen other people for at least 2 weeks before that, and I don’t know what the official date was for Berlin, but on this date it became official in our house. I thought the whole thing wouldn’t affect me as much because I was already working from home, but the first two weeks were intense with a cagey anxiety, after that, though, I realised I didn’t have the constant fear of missing out any more because there was nothing to miss out on. I could just focus on whatever it was I was doing and that’s how the Fever Dream Series began.

I love when what is happening around/within me directly translates into the work, and this was exactly the case. For the first time since 2014, I was making pieces that were confined within the limits of the paper. The collages were as confined as I was, super saturated, chaotic, populated by wild life and ultimately abandoned.

Adding the technical info of each piece I realised how dark and dreary most of the names are and the truth is that, despite the shit moments, and there were a few, the overall experience was one of deep quiet, of feeling weirdly focused and in touch with something I felt I had lost a while ago. I felt better than I had in years, like I was free to feel and say things usually people would rather not know about each other or acknowledge in themselves.

I’m still figuring out this blogging endeavor, the idea is to create a newsletter as soon as I have a little more content. But even where content is concerned, I’m still working out what/how to add information/references that I find cool without making it too random and boring. Also thought about creating a little resource library when it comes to collage, from technique, to process, materials etc. Let me know if any of this interests you or if there is something else that I haven’t mentioned here and you’d like to know more about.
